Missed-the-Bed-Again Buffy & Spike (December 2004)

For those unfamiliar with customising, the pale pink stuff is the colour of the 'super sculpey' sculpting clay that I put over the plastic figures. It can be translucent, so you can often see the original colour of the figure underneath. Once I've finished sculpting, I always completely repaint the whole figure.

I was commissioned to make a pair of figures for an episode of BtVS in December 2004. It was from where their antics get out of hand and they end up nekkid under the rugs in Spike's lair!

I won 2 prizes at the BtVSFigs Forum, for 'Best Paintjob' and 'Most Creative Custom'.

I made the piece in 3 parts, each figure with its own rug over the top and slotting into the back of an upturned Matrix stand. When each piece was completely sculpted and painted, I glued them together.

I used the usual heads for Buffy and Spike but he had a Jim Morrison torso and she an Anya torso. I used random legs just to get the shape under the rugs. I used sculpey to give her a new hair style and to reposition his arms. I rolled out flat rectangles to use as the rugs.

I looked at a home catalogue to get some good rug designs and painted them laboriously with paint, white pen and metallic pens.
