Shotguns-&-Sympathy Buffy & Spike (August 2006)

For those unfamiliar with customising, the pale pink stuff is the colour of the 'super sculpey' sculpting clay that I put over the plastic figures. It can be translucent, so you can often see the original colour of the figure underneath. Once I've finished sculpting, I always completely repaint the whole figure.

I was commissioned to make Buffy and Spike from the porch scene at the end of "Fool for Love".

I found some toy stairs on eBay that would work for the porch steps. After some hack-saw action, I converted the two story staircase into one longer set of steps.

I used a Buffy 2 figure with Anya's torso and hands.

I sculpted Buffy's upper arms, hips and thighs from scratch, to get her into the correct hunched position. I sculpted her flared trousers, cardigan and necklace. I sculpted her wavy Season 5 hair, looking as if she's just run her hands through it.

I used a DST Spike figure with MAC Spike legs.

I re-covered the porch and the top of each step to hide the joins. I glued on some card, because the steps would warp, if I used sculpey and boiled.

I sculpted Spike's thighs and coat from scratch.

I decided not to have him patting Buffy on the back. That pose is only funny and touching because it's brief. There is more dramatic tension in him sitting there, twitching his fingers, about to pat her.

I painted Buffy's eyes gazing of into the distance, thinking, and put tear-stains on her cheeks. I painted Spike's face looking at Buffy, worried. His head position can be moved.

The base is made from a Charmed Series 2 wall.
